Your phone must be unlocked
Even if your phone supports eSIM, it must be unlocked to use a travel eSIM from another company. Phones bought outright are usually unlocked. If you bought yours on a contract, ask your network to unlock it. In the UK this is free.
iPhones with no SIM tray
Some newer iPhones, such as the iPhone Air, have no SIM tray at all and only use eSIMs. They can hold several eSIMs at once, so adding a travel eSIM is simple. Just keep your UK eSIM switched on for texts. How to set one up.
