Europe
European destinations
In the EU some UK networks include roaming. Others charge about £2.75 a day, which is where an eSIM wins.
Worldwide
Long-haul and non-EU
Outside the EU most UK networks charge £6 to £8 a day, so an eSIM almost always saves money.

Explained
What is a travel eSIM?
An eSIM is a SIM card built into your phone. Instead of buying a plastic SIM at the airport, you buy a data plan online, scan a QR code or tap a button in an app, and it installs in a couple of minutes.
Your UK SIM stays in the phone, so you still get texts to your UK number (handy for bank codes), while the eSIM handles your data. Read the full guide.
Before you buy
Three quick checks
- Your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked. Check your model.
- You know roughly how much data you use. Use the calculator.
- You've checked your own network's roaming price. See every network.
