Which network matters in Mexico
Telcel has the widest coverage in Mexico. Movistar and AT&T are fine in the cities and the big resorts but can drop out in smaller places. If you are touring rather than staying in one hotel, a plan that can use Telcel (Holafly and Ubigi list it) is the safer choice.
Which eSIM to pick
- Two weeks in Cancun or the Riviera Maya: 10GB is plenty for most people. Nomad's 10GB for 30 days is one of the cheapest.
- Touring or road trips: choose a plan with Telcel for the best coverage.
- You need to make local calls: Airalo sells Mexico plans with minutes and texts included, handy for booking tours or taxis.
- Heavy use: the unlimited plans from Nomad, Airalo or Holafly are around £17 to £18 for a week. Nomad slows you down after a daily limit, so read the small print.
